THE MCJ

Christian scholarship is the Church’s prodigious invention to defend itself against the Bible. - Søren Kierkegaard

SINGALONG

Over at National Review, John Derbyshire has some contributions for the next evisceration update of the Episcopal hymnal.  Here's one:

The Church's one foundation
Is just "Do as you please!"
No need for revelation
Or scriptural decrees.
So long as you're contented
How can your deeds be wrong?
This creed we've implemented —
You'd better go along!

Don't bother with the Gospels
Or listen to Saint Paul;
The Acts of the Apostles
Aren't relevant at all.
The Holy Spirit's leading
No matter what we choose;
So what's the point of reading
Those old first-century Jews?

At family communion
My partner comes along,
To show that in our union
We're doing nothing wrong.
Yet there's an odd phenomenon:
We notice with dismay
That families with children
Are all drifting away.

Really funny. Now all we need to do is duplicated and distribute in time for Christmas midnight mass, if that's what they still call it

I sat here and sang it out loud to myself. It's fantastic! And sad. But let's have a hope-filled Christmas, because Jesus always comes to us and will come again. Merry Christmas!

The majority of people today have lost sight of the difference between right and wrong, good and evil, and that's why some people are crazy enough to spend $50,000 to clone their dead cat(s)! - TC (http://GotTorah.bloghorn.com)

That gal with the 50K cat was just on the local news, so apparently she's a Dallas woman; she says it's "the best money I ever spent". I wonder if she would adopt me.

This is really good. But my favorite Episcopal hymn is "It Ain't Necessarily So."

The clergy's one foundation is not what we believe, tis rather compensations, from Pension Fund received, We dare not rock this boat, contro-versy we avoid, and thus by our compromising, make our salvation null-and-void
