It's Iowahawk's world. He just lets the rest of us live in it. Thanks to Skookumchuk for the heads-up.

at 2/12/2008 9:52:24 PMIowahawk's site isn't loading for me. I was wondering why, until on an impulse I checked Instapundit. Sure enough, he linked to it about an hour ago. Once the Instalanche dies down a bit, I'll read Iowahawk's post. Until then, I guess I'll just have to wait. |

at 2/12/2008 10:42:19 PM| If only 'twere but this "hooly manne of peace, Withe bearyd of snow and wyld brows of fleece." Richard Fernandez (alias wretchard of the Belmont Club) wrote at Pajamas Media on Feb. 12, 2008: An Associated Press report says Williams received a standing ovation at the church Synod Monday “despite his recent controversial statments about the role of Islamic law in Britain.” The ovation was so loud that “Rowan Williams twice asked members of the Church of England’s governing body, the General Synod, to stop clapping so he could begin his talk about the furious response to his advocating the incorporation of some elements of Shariah law into British society.” It's like in the movie Life Force -- the contagion is general at the central command post. The left is being so (politically) tribal. When you look across the conservative blogosphere, you see social and religious conservatives defending the rights of women and homosexuals not to be subjugated, stoned, etc. But the left cannot see past its Bush Dementia Syndrome and its hatred of Western conservatives and will not awake to the savvy deadly threat. The Salafists and Islamic imperialists have centuries of experience dealing with ninnies and appeasers (who always think themselves to be novelly and imaginatively transcending the vicious cycles of history) and take them for the suckers that they are, every time. |

at 2/12/2008 11:32:11 PM| Iowahawk: brilliant. Brilliant. Now can I raise a serious question: Why did Rowan Williams make that Sharia speech? Let's assume he was not naive about it; anyone who has wiggled his way to the top job we can assume is not naive. Is he trying to keep the Africans away from Lambeth? What would happen if they followed East Australia in the boycott (as I would be tempted to do if I were them)? Where is the liberal gain if that happens? Those of you who are more politically savvy than I please help us out here? Does the ABC want the conservatives to stay away in droves because the liberals are afraid they will impose sanctions on TEC and ACC? Would a conservative majority at Lambeth threaten those churches' ability to take property away from congregations? Or is Lambeth irrelevant to TEC and ACC? Is the ABC going out of his way to offend the Global South so that the liberals can bring in some new initiative? What would that be? What do they need next? How much damage could they do if they had a majority or plurality at Lambeth? The liberals have had a policy for years of encouraging the orthodox to just leave - is that William's strategy here? Make himself so untenable as a leader that the Global South lose all allegiance to the Global North? Maybe the liberals have decided that the Global South is more trouble than it is worth... Time to dump ballast and move forward with a liberal Anglican church in wealthy liberal lands, selling off the church properties as congregation dwindle. A sort of sinecure for aging hippies, unitarians, and wannabe intellectuals who are not talented enough even to make it in the liberal academic stream? C'mon you politicos, please explain it to me! |
